Fire Safety

Here are some great books for your unit!

Activities

After reading a book about fire safety, have the students brainstorm a list of rules.  Have students create a matchbook shaped book.  On the inside, students can write fire safety rules on paper matchsticks.  Glue the matchsticks inside and fold construction paper to look like a matchbook.

The Fire Station by Robert Munsch is a funny story about two kids who go for a ride on a fire truck. This entertaining tale helps remind students that you should only contact firemen or police in an emergency.  It is a great book to use as a book treasure book.  Book treasure ideas include small bells or a small piece of sponge.

Fire Safety Homework: Encourage students to talk about fire safety with their families.  For a complete lesson on planning escape routes, visit Your Map to Safety.

Read and talk about what to do in the event of a fire by visiting Fire Safety Group.
