Meet
Mrs. McDowell

I decided to be a teacher when I met Mrs. Sandy D'arconte. She was my second grade teacher and she made learning so exciting and fun. I knew that when I grew up I wanted to be just like her!
This will be my ninth year in the classroom. I have taught both kindergarten and first grade. My heart belongs to the little children and my passion lies in early childhood education. I also work as an educational consultant for SRA/Open Court. As a consultant, I train teachers and administrators in the area of language arts for grades Pre-K-6. It was exciting to help Legacy Christian Academy with their adoption of Open Court in grades 1-6 last year! I hold a BS in Elementary Education with a specialization in Spanish and an Early Childhood Endorsement from Baylor University, and I am a Texas certified teacher. During my undergraduate studies, I enjoyed the unique opportunity to work with elementary children in Oxford, England and Belfast, Northern Ireland. I also taught ballet to students age three to adult as well as inner city youth in Waco, Texas.
In the last several years, I have mentored student teachers and presented seminars on communication between home and school, centers, and morning meeting at ACSI conventions. In 2005 and 2007, I was honored to be selected by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. This year I have enjoyed inspiring college students as a guest speaker at UNT and I look forward to training teachers in Alabama at the South Alabama Early Childhood Conference this summer.
Teaching
is a dream come true and each day I learn something new from my students who
touch my heart and warm my soul.
