Need some fun things to do this summer?

 Try out some of these fun crafts with your mom or dad!

Lip Gloss

Make your own lip gloss!

Materials:

2 tbs. vegetable shortening

1 packet unsweetened drink mix (such as Koolade)

Clean film cannisters

 

Mix together 2 tablespoons of vegetable shortening with unsweetened drink mix.  Microwave the mixture for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Pour into a clean film cannister and cool in the fridge!

 

 

 

 

Bubble Paint

Blow bubbles to create beautiful paper!

Materials:

dishsoap (like Dawn or Pamolive)

water

powdered tempra paint

straws

paper

 

Mix soap, water, and powdered paint together.  Then, blow bubbles in the mixture.  Place paper on top of the bubbles to make "bubble print" designs and paper.  Then, you can create beautiful cards with your new paper!

 

Ocean Bottle

Create your very own waves in a bottle!

Materials:

2 liter soda bottle, clean

water

vegetable oil

blue powdered tempra paint

Optional Items:

plastic ocean animals

seashells

ocean confetti

 

Add tempra paint to the oil.  Pour into bottle until it is half full.  Add optional items if desired.  Fill the bottle with water.  Roll back and forth to see your waves form!

Super Bubble Ooze

 

Make a gooey fun gack!

Materials

liquid starch

school blue gel

food coloring

 

Mix equal parts of liquid starch and school blue gel. Add one or two drops of food coloring.  Stir.  Let the mixture sit for five to ten minutes or until the glue absorbs the starch.  Then, knead the mixture for about ten minutes.  Then, have fun playing with your ooey gooey gack!  See if you can get it to blow bubbles!

 

 

Playdoh

Make your very own homemade playdoh!

2 cups water

Half cup salt

2 Tablespoons cream of tartar

2 Tablespoons vegetable oil

2 cups Flour

  In a medium sized pot, bring the water and salt to a boil. Stir in the remaining ingredients; then allow the mixture to cool slightly. Knead the dough until it reaches a smooth doughy consistency. Then store the dough in a resealable plastic bag.

 

 

Watercolor Playdoh

 

1 Cup flour

Half cup salt

2 tsp. cream of tartar

4 tsp. baby oil

 

Put all ingredients in a pan and stir constantly until mixture pulls away from the side of the pan.  Then knead in the water colors.  Feel free to divid this recipe into 4 parts and used 2 tsp. of color for each part

Sidewalk Chalk

Materials:

Three quarters cup of plaster of paris

2 tsp. liquid tempra paint

Mix ingredients together.  Spoon into plastic candle or chocolate molds (available at most craft stores).  You could also spoon the mixture into toilet or paper towel rolls.

 

Bath Salts

Make your very own bath salts!

Materials:

Epsom salts

Fragrance (Use perfume samples or a few drops of your favorite lotion!)

Food Coloring

 

Mix fragrance and color together.  Toss with epsom salts.  Spoon into a baby food jar that you have already decorated!

Sparkle Votive

Materials:

baby food jar

school glue

salt

stickers

 

Decorate the baby food jar with stickers.  Then, paint the entire jar with glue.  Sprinkle or roll the jar in salt. When, it dries, insert a candle and watch your votive sparkle!

 

 

 

 

 

Water Colors

Make your own set of water colors!

Materials;

1 tbs. vinegar

1 tbs. baking soda

Food coloring

4 tbs. corn starch

1 tbs. light corn syrup

 film cannisters

 

Stir together the first two ingredients and watch them foam!  Then, add the color and remaining ingredients.  Pour into film cannisters and allow to harden.  Use them like regular water colors!

KoolAid Playdoh

Materials:

2 and a half cups flour

Half cup of salt

1 tbs alum

2 packages of KoolAid

2 cups boiling water

3 tbs. cooking oil

 

Mix flour, salt, and alum together.  Add water and oil and stir really well.  Knead until mixture is smooth.  Allow to cool. Then, store in an airtight container in the fridge.
