Dear Families,

Welcome to the Sunshine Bag!  Jesus commands us to love one another and to share our love for Him with others.  One way we can let Jesus shine through us is by spreading some sunshine.  Spreading sunshine means spreading happiness and helpfulness wherever we go.  A smile, a wave, even holding a hand are all simple ways to make the world a brighter place.  In this bag, are some materials and ideas to help your family share some rays of helpfulness with others.  Please keep the bag for two nights and record the sunshine you shared in the Sunshine Journal.  Have fun and remember to let Jesus shine bright!

Happy Shining,

Mrs. McDowell

Ideas to spread some sunshine!

V            Write a note to a friend or family member saying “thanks” for something he or she has done.  Don’t sign it!

V            When you are out running errands or shopping, smile at people.  Hold the door open for them and say, “Have a nice day!”

V            Illustrate a card or write a special letter to someone who is ill.  Send it to a local nursing home or children’s hospital.

V            Go on a trash walk around your neighborhood!  Pick up any litter (make sure you wear gloves and be careful of any unsafe items.)  Plant something in the area you clean.  Encourage other neighbors to join in!

V            Bring homemade cookies to a neighbor!

V            Write down a special time you shared with someone and illustrate it. Send it to that person.

V            Hold a family meeting.  Share a compliment with each person in the family.  Write them down and illustrate them.  Bind them together as a family book-add to it as necessary!

V            Say a special prayer for someone you love or someone you don’t know.

V            Write down your family’s favorite recipe.  Copy it and decorate the page.  The next time, you visit the store share it with another person or family.  If you can, buy the ingredients too!

V            Visit around your community and look for people working to keep it safe and make it better-crossing guards, maintenance workers, police officers, garbage collectors.  Surprise them with a cold/warm drink and a treat!

V            Wish everyone you can think of well today-even people you’re not happy with.

V            Write a special prayer or thank you note.  Decorate it and give it to your pastor or Sunday school teacher.
